“All different all equal campaign”- Campaign

This campaign for European youth ran from June 2006 to September 2007, in conjunction with the European Commission and the European Youth Forum. The website contains a resource pack, based on the National Youth Council of Ireland’s Anti- Racism and Equality Education Pack (1995). The pack aims to help youth workers address race and equality issues with the young people with whom they work.

European Centre for Modern Languages- ECML

The Centre’s aim is to encourage excellence and innovation in language teaching, and to help Europeans to learn languages more efficiently. The organisation’s website contains further information about its work, including a wide range of resources, focussing on the methodology of language education.

"Diversity and inclusion: challenges for teacher education"-
This paper was produced for a 2009 conference and details "Key competences for Diversity".

Arising from the conference, a paper which may be useful for educators was produced, “Policies and practices for teaching socio-cultural diversity - A framework of teacher competences for engaging with diversity”.

Language Education Policy Profile - Country Report – Ireland- Report

This was a joint Council of Europe and Department of Education and Science 2005 publication, which examined, amongst other things, the languages spoken in Ireland, the national language education policy, and language teaching in Ireland.


Language Policy Division- Division

The Division implements intergovernmental medium-term programmes with a special emphasis on policy development. Its programmes are complemented by those of the European Centre for Modern Languages, and it is responsible for the European language portfolio, which is a tool to support the development of plurilingualism and pluriculturalism. “White Paper on Intercultural Dialogue” - Paper

The Council of Europe’s “White Paper on Intercultural Dialogue” argues in the name of the governments of the 47 CoE member states that their common future depends on their ability to safeguard and develop human rights (as enshrined in the European Convention on Human Rights), democracy and the rule of law, and to promote mutual understanding. It reasons that the intercultural approach offers a forward-looking model for managing cultural diversity.

European Commission

Education and Culture Directorate-General- Education

This Directorate-General aims to achieve policy cooperation with EU Member States and the implementation of the Commission’s Lifelong Learning Programme. The website contains a lot of information about education in Europe, including exchange programmes, migration and education, the Commission’s multilingualism policy, publications and research, and current and past programmes.

The website also contains details of the consultation process on the the Commisison’s Green Paper: "Migration & mobility: challenges and opportunities for EU education systems". This Paper opened a debate on how education policies may better address the challenges and opportunities posed by immigration and internal EU mobility flows.

European Integration Forum- EIF

The Forum provides an opportunity for people to express their views on integration issues, in particular relating to the "EU agenda on integration". It also allows the European Institutions to take a pro-active role in this field.

The Directorate-General has produced a newsletter containing an article from Aontas, regarding the implementation of Ireland's "Intercultural Education Strategy, 2010-2015" in the further education sector.


European Union (EU)- EU

The EU’s website offers a wide range of information on travelling, studying and working in member states.

Don’t Give Up
This is a European Union funded project aiming to reduce the numbers of adult learners that drop-out of language courses and improve learners’ motivation to complete courses. The project has investigated why adults drop-out and has built up a knowledge base of ways to prevent it, by motivating students. Solutions suggested in the best practices range from the simple, running a basic resource centre to the complex, overall structure of a language course. Eurydice- Eurydice

Eurydice is a European education information network. This information ranges from detailed descriptions of the organisation and function of European education systems, to comparative studies covering various aspects of education systems. In 2009, Eurydice published the study "Integrating Immigrant Children into Schools in Europe: Measures to foster communication with immigrant families and heritage language teaching for immigrant children". This covers the pre-primary, primary, and secondary levels of educations of 30 European countries.
