Handbooks on Integration
Three 'Handbooks on Integration for Policy Makers and Practitioners' have been produced to act as a driver for the exchange of information and best practice between Member States of the European Union. These handbooks have been produced in collaboration with the National Contact Points on Integration and through a series of technical seminars held in different member states.
|The first edition of the Handbook (published in May 2004) deals with the topics of the introduction of newly arrived immigrants and recognised refugees, civic participation, and indicators of integration. The Handbook also includes an annex on 'Translating policies into programmes'.|
|The second edition of the Handbook (published in May 2007) deals with mainstreaming and immigrant integration, housing in an urban environment, economic integration and integration governance. A technical seminar was held in Dublin in the preparation of the chapter on mainstreaming (October 2005).
|The third edition of the Handbook (launched in April 2010 at the Ministerial Conference in Zaragoza) deals with European exchange of information and good practice, mass media and integration, awareness-raising and migrant empowerment, dialogue platforms, acquisition of nationality and the practice of active citizenship, as well as the topic os immigrant youth, education and the labour market. A technical seminar was held in Dublin in the preparation of the chapter on dialogue platforms (May 2008).|
