National Contact Points on Integration

The network of The National Contact Points on Integration is an inter governmental forum for the exchange of information and good practice at the EU level with the purpose of finding successful solutions for the integration of immigrants in all Member States and to ensure policy co-ordination and coherence at national level and with EU initiatives. Ireland is a member of the National Contact Points on Integration and a representative of the Office for the Promotion of Migrant Integration (OPMI) takes part in meetings. Meetings, which are chaired by the EU Commission, take place approximately 3 times per year in Brussels and related expert meetings and conferences in Member States take place approximately 2-3 times per year. In 2013, meetings of the National Contact Points on Integration took place on on 4 February, 3 June and 25 November 2013.

Meeting - Europe on the Move - Vienna, 7-8 May 2013

OPMI was represented at an expert meeting organised by the Austrian Federal Ministry of the Interior in follow up to a meeting organised jointly by Germany and the Netherlands in Rotterdam in 2012. The conference further explored the possibilities on how to maximise the benefits of freedom of movement for all.

EASO meeting on refugee relocation, Malta, 5-6 June 2013

OPMI was represented at an expert meeting on the intra-EU relocation of beneficiaries of international protection in the EU organised by the European Asylum Support Office (EASO) in Malta from 5 - 6 June 2013. Participants discussed current practices with regards to intra-EU relocation and possible future tools that could be developed to support Member States in this field. Ireland has relocated ten persons under international protection in Malta to Ireland almost every year year from 2007 -2013 as a gesture of support to Malta, a small island which is experiencing large numbers of persons seeking international protection.

OPMI was represented at an expert meeting on the intra-EU relocation of beneficiaries of international protection in the EU organised by the Commission in Brussels on 25 September 2013.This meeting was held to assist Member States in understanding what the relocation needs at EU level were in the immediate future and to help Member States to prepare their relocation pledges under the new Asylum and Migration Funds. The European Asylum Support Office made a presentation on the findings of the expert meeting to discuss relocation held in Malta from 5-6 June 2013 for the benefit of those Member States who has not been represented at that meeting. UNHCR made a presentation as did the International Organization for Migration (IOM). Malta and Bulgaria made presentations on the increases asylum flows into their countries.

Expert meeting on Resettlement, Brussels, 11 October 2013

OPMI was represented at an expert meeting on resettlement organised by the Commission in Brussels on 25 September 2013.This meeting was held to assist Member States in understanding what the resettlement needs were in the immediate future and to help Member States to prepare their resettlement pledges under the new Asylum and Migration funds. The European Asylum Support Office made a presentation. UNHCR made a presentation as did IOM. Malta and the Czech Republic made presentations also.
