The functions of OPMI include the coordination of Ireland’s international reporting requirements relating to racism and integration including those under the United Nations Convention on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (UNCERD)The examination of Ireland's latest State report took place on Tuesday 22nd of February 2011 and again on Wednesday the 23rd of February 2011. Ireland's Opening Statement to the Committee can be found here.
A copy of the Combined Third and Fourth State Report by Ireland to the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination which was prepared by OPMI, a copy of the annexes and information from other sources such as Civil Society Shadow Reports and a copy of the Committee's Concluding Observations can be accessed through this link to the Committee’s website.
In accordance with article 9, paragraph 1, of the Convention and rule 65 of its amended rules of procedure, the Committee requested Ireland to provide information, within one year of the adoption of the Concluding Observations, on Ireland's follow-up to the recommendations contained in paragraphs 11, 12, 15 and 16 of the Concluding Observations. The report which was prepared by OPMI was transmitted to the Committee in early May 2012 and is available here.
UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) – Working Group on ResettlementThis Office is represented on the Working Group on Resettlement which brings together Governments and the UNHCR twice yearly in Geneva to discuss resettlement priorities worldwide and to share best practice in resettlement.
Annual Tripartite ConsultationsThe Office also participates in the Annual Tripartite Consultations on resettlement which is a forum which strengthens cooperation between Governments NGOs and UNHCR in the area of resettlement. The ATCR allows for open and frank dialogue and strives to produce outcomes by building collaborative approaches to enhance global resettlement delivery. These meetings also take place in Geneva.
